Bike the Branches Raises Funds for Brooklyn Public Library

Kim Posnett, global co-head of Internet Investment Banking with Goldman Sachs Group, serves on the board of trustees for the Brooklyn Public Library. Kim Posnett lends her talents to the library to help continue the important programs and services the library provides to the residents of Brooklyn. Recently, the Brooklyn Public Library hosted their fourth annual Bike the Branches spring fundraising campaign.

On May 7, 2016, over 1,000 Brooklyn residents participated in the Bike the Branches fundraiser. After purchasing “passports,” participants rode their bicycles through the borough to explore some of the Brooklyn Public Library’s 60 branches. A passport for adults cost $20; kids and seniors cost $10. An entire family could participate for $40. At each stop, cyclists received stamps that could earn them prizes at the conclusion of the event.

Several branches, including Greenpoint, Windsor Terrace, and Bedford, hosted Smorgasburg vendors, giving participants a chance to take a break and grab some refreshment. A block party with live music was held in front of the Central Library at Grand Army Plaza to wrap up the event.

Families from across Brooklyn participated in Bike the Branches and appreciated the opportunity to explore areas of the borough that they don’t normally see. The festive event brought neighborhoods together to help support the library’s programs and services.

Brooklyn Public Library's 2016 Annual Gala

Since 2005, Kim Posnett has served as the global co-head of internet investment banking at Goldman Sachs. In addition to fulfilling the responsibilities of this executive-level position, Kim Posnett sits on the board of the Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) in Brooklyn, New York. She helped organize the 2016 Annual Gala, one of the library's most popular fundraising events.

More than 400 distinguished guests attended the March 2016 gala in Williamsburg. The guests gathered at an upscale event space known as Weylin B. Seymour's. First Data Corporation's chairman and CEO Frank J. Bisignano and the online marketplace Etsy were honored during the dinner program; Etsy CEO Chad Dickerson and the chief financial officer Kristina Salen were in attendance. Following dinner, guests enjoyed dancing and socializing.

The 2016 gala raised a total of $770,000 for the Brooklyn Public Library. The donations will be used to care for and add to the library's extensive collection of materials, enhance BPL's digital library offerings, supplement the teen internship program, and assist with early childhood programming.
